Homily

Sunday, 10 August 2025 — Nineteenth Sunday Of The Year (C) — A Summary and Reflection

Summary

This Sunday emphasizes faith in God’s promises and readiness for His coming.

In the First Reading (Wisdom 18:6–9), God’s people recall how they were delivered from Egypt. Their trust in God’s promises was their strength as they sang praises even before deliverance arrived.

The Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 33) celebrates the Lord as protector and provider for those who fear Him, affirming hope in His faithful love.

In the Second Reading (Hebrews 11:1–2, 8–19), the faith of Abraham and Sarah is praised. They trusted God’s promises even when fulfillment seemed impossible. Their hope shaped their lives and led them to a “better country”—a heavenly homeland.

The Gospel (Luke 12:32–48) calls for readiness and generosity. Jesus exhorts His followers to store up treasure in heaven and be like servants awaiting their master. The Lord will come unexpectedly, and blessed are those found faithful.

Reflection

Faith means trusting God even when we cannot see the full picture. Like Abraham, we are called to obey, to walk into the unknown, and to build our lives on God’s promises. Readiness is not fear-based but rooted in joyful anticipation. It expresses itself in daily fidelity, generosity, and hope. The faithful servant lives each moment as a gift and a responsibility.
