Catholic Women’s Association in OLSS Parish, Juba Holds Lenten Prayer Breakfast and Reflection
The Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Juba, has held a Prayer Breakfast aimed at deepening spiritual reflection and strengthening community bonds during the Lenten season.
The event, held under the theme “Return to me with all your heart” (Joel 2:12), brought together members of the association, parishioners, and key parish leaders, including the PPC Vice Chair, for a morning of prayer, reflection, and dialogue.

The programme commenced with arrival and registration, followed by a call to worship and invocation. A welcome address was delivered by the CWA President, Mother Augusta Allieu, who encouraged participants to remain committed to spiritual growth during Lent. Breakfast was served before a scripture reading delivered by Sinnah Massaquoi. The session also featured a Lenten reflection by Rev. Fr. Dr. Titus Imojime, after which participants engaged in group discussions, organised into five groups.

Call for Spiritual Renewal and Vigilance
In his reflection, Rev. Fr. Dr. Titus Imojime emphasised the need for Christians to return wholeheartedly to God, particularly during Lent. He noted that many believers risk drifting away from their faith and losing a genuine connection with God.
Drawing from the message of the prophet Joel and the temptations of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 4:1–13), he urged the faithful to resist worldly temptations and practice self-discipline. He cited Jesus’ response to temptation, “Man shall not live by bread alone” (Luke 4:4), as a reminder that spiritual nourishment is greater than physical desires.
Fr. Titus further highlighted that temptations often arise even when individuals feel spiritually strong and warned against overconfidence, which can lead to neglecting important spiritual responsibilities.
He stressed that prayer remains essential in overcoming life’s challenges and encouraged believers to prioritise devotion to God over material pursuits and societal pressures. He also called for maturity in faith, cautioning against complacency and urging Christians to examine their lives and make meaningful changes.
The reflection further addressed Christian values in marriage and society, emphasising the need to strengthen families, transform lives through faith, and embrace a renewed way of living rooted in obedience to God.

Women Urged to Lead with Faith and Purpose
A second reflection delivered by Ann Marie Massaquoi focused on empowering women through faith and community leadership.
She highlighted the importance of unity, collaboration, and spiritual growth, noting the vital role women play in shaping families and society. She cited the book of Genesis 3:15, underscoring the spiritual strength and purpose of women within God’s plan, and encouraging participants to remain steadfast in faith and committed to righteous living.
She further encouraged women to pursue personal development, embrace leadership responsibilities, and take active roles in promoting positive change within their communities.
Group Discussions Highlight Community Challenges
During the group discussions, participants examined key challenges facing Christian mothers, families, and the wider community.
Presentations addressed issues such as maintaining faith in diverse communities, supporting young mothers, and strengthening unity within the church. Other discussions focused on the impact of modern technology on family life, particularly its effects on communication, moral values, and relationships.
Participants emphasised the importance of prayer, mutual support, responsible leadership, and regular community engagement as essential tools for overcoming these challenges and building stronger Christian homes.
Health Awareness and Closing Remarks
The second part of the workshop featured a health talk on cervical cancer by Mother Theresa Boima, who explained the condition, its causes, and encouraged women to undergo regular testing.
In her closing remarks, Mother Maria Isata Gborie expressed gratitude to God for the success of the programme and acknowledged the contributions of participants. She noted that the session had provided a clear way forward and encouraged continued commitment to faith, unity, and spiritual growth.
The event concluded with lunch, marking the end of a reflective and impactful gathering focused on renewal, learning, and community strengthening.
